In his book, Tom Brokaw wrote: “the greatest generation that society has produced”. Who are they? The majority of our patients aged 75 to 85. Why are they the “greatest”? They were raised during The Great Depression, and learned the core values that helped shape America. Hard work, thriftiness, honesty, and patriotism is how they were able to fight and win World War Two. To rebuild the country’s industries and eventually turn America into a superpower.
Can you imagine radio shows, books, and newspapers the only source of entertainment? Black and white movies, then talkies, then color? How about the invention of television? Black and white and then color. So many advancements that we take for granted today. A job and career spanning 40 years with a pension. Look at their marriages, 50 to 60 years together. More of their core values; trust, loyalty, and respect for each other.
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate these strong solid seniors that have given us all the freedom to pursue our dreams in a safe and secure country they have fought and sacrificed for. Our patients are to be respected because they are the “greatest”.
