Boomer Ladies

the chatWomen ages 40-60 face many challenges but it is also a period in our lives that bring reflection and joy. No one ever told me that I would face menopause, have grandchildren, be caring for aging parents and have my own aging body to deal with. A bad hair day is no longer a challenge and I am vain enough to use the umbrella.

Despite the challenges, this is the best time of my life. I am at the top of my career, I know who I am and what I need, and I have learned to accept who I am in a positive way. I am still eager to learn and grow personally and professionally. I have a special appreciation for the little things in life and time that I didn’t have when I was younger. I can spend time on myself now without feeling guilty.

Technology is my tool to all of the unanswered questions I have as I face the challenges and joys of this era. I am an internet shopper. No more tired feet and frustration as search for the best deal. I wait for the deal to come to me in an e-mail! Shopping now is a social event and if I happen to run across that one special item that is a great day.

My friends and colleagues share their experiences and help me understand my challenges. Sitting across from them, I see that they also have a new wrinkle and those few extra pounds. We share resources to care for our aging parents and stories of our memories. The information and support helps me realize that I am not alone.

I am the upmost advocate for patients and families dealing with End of Life. I value them as individuals, knowing that they have acquired more life lessons than I. I bring to them choices in how they live their last days, months, or maybe years. Most of them don’t know these choices exist as they try and navigate the health care system. If they choose Hospice for comfort or aggressive life sustaining treatment, I listen. They will choose what is right for them at the right time.

We hope the information here will build upon your knowledge and give you the support you need to bring joy and peace of mind to this era of your life.  Knowledge is power, empowering us to make the most of this special time in our lives.

Please send me  information and stories that I can post. This area is work in progress so check back often for new items. I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Louise Williams, RN, BS, Executive Director, Hospice of the Pines
